Diane Gray has devoted more
than twenty years to a rewarding artistic career that includes professional
experience as a creative director and manager with design, marketing and
printing firms serving national and international clients. Her images have
appeared in print publications and on stationery, posters, apparel, stickers
and gift items. As the founder and president of Boomerang Studios, she has
produced an extraordinary portfolio of work and created original illustrations
for dozens of national and international companies.
Diane also has volunteered her time as an art instructor for nonprofits
serving young children and teens in after-school and social services programs.
Green Street Garden Party has allowed Diane to return to her roots (of course).
“I've been drawing forever, and I've made greeting cards since I was
little, about four years old,” Diane explains. Her affinity for helping
people express the right sentiment, for conceiving magnetic characters that
fuel imaginations, and for appreciating the restorative power of nature's
gifts eventually emerged as a flourishing Green Street Garden Party. “I
like the message of eco-friendliness, of regard for the riches of the outdoor
world,” Diane says. “I feel like children these days haven't
been exposed so much to nature, and that they may be missing out on something
magical.”
Diane and her creative team nourish Green Street Garden Party from her waterside
studio in Pasadena, Maryland, near Baltimore. Out the window, she has views
of meandering Rock Creek and her garden, a riotous wildflower mix. She and
her Jack Russell Terrier, Mickey, take time to savor their natural environment
every day. |

Sean Flanagan was born and
raised in Bowie, Maryland. As the 9th of 13 children, he was taught at an
early age the importance of sharing and conservation. “Paper was to
be used for school work only,” Sean recalls his parents explaining.
So, on weekends, his father would roll out a portable chalkboard on which
to draw, and he would wait for his 8 older siblings to finish before it
was his turn. “Growing up, learning to share was just as important
as learning to draw,” Sean remembers.
Today, Sean has turned his self-taught, childhood love for drawing into
an extensive portfolio of professional work. Producing original illustrations
for various companies, his work has also appeared in newspapers, books,
on posters, and apparel. But it's the personal work he's done for family
and close friends that he enjoys most. “I still remember back to my
youth, and the people who've influenced and inspired me in my life,”
Sean recalls. “It's that familiar sense of family, of sharing and
of a warm community spirit that inspires my art to this day. Working on
Garden Party is a vivid reminder that the spirit is what we make of it,
and nothing illustrates that better than the wonderful characters of Green
Street.” |
